Singapore Foreign Minister: Cambodia's Success in Fighting Covid-19 Attracts Singaporean Investors

PHNOM PENH: Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan congratulated Cambodia on its success in preventing the spread of Covid-19; with Cambodia having the highest vaccination rate in the region and some developed countries and the lowest mortality rates, it allowed Cambodia to reopen quickly. He said that this is why Singaporean investors are interested in Cambodia.

Speaking at a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace on February 16, Vivian Balakrishnan said that the success of Cambodia's anti-Covid-19 campaign has attracted Singaporean investors to invest in the Kingdom of Cambodia, especially in the field of trade, warehousing, as well as transportation. In this regard, Vivian Balakrishnan informed the Prime Minister that Singapore will continue to support and promote the expansion of cooperation, especially bilateral relations between the two countries, and support Cambodia as the chair of ASEAN.

The Prime Minister thanked Vivian Balakrishnan for supporting Cambodia as the chair of ASEAN and considered Cambodia safe for the resumption of flights. He encouraged more investment in Cambodia, to boost trade between the two countries, and to look at possible cooperation in the fields of education, health and other fields.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister also talked about his trip to Myanmar. Stating that the purpose of his visit was one to reduce or eliminate violence through ceasefire. Two was to find ways to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar without discrimination, and three is to establish dialogue.

Due to the success of the vaccination campaign to target 100% of the targeted population, Cambodia fully reopened the country in all areas on November 1, 2021. With the opening of the country, the Ministry of Economy expects that Cambodia's economic growth may be about 4.8 percent in 2022.
